Back in the late 70's, I built up a '72 HO to '71 Boss specs (except used a TRW dual lift/duration cam) that was bored .030 over, three angle valve job, 800 Holley with milled air horn/no choke, long tube headers that produced approx 425 hp at about 6500 rpm with 104 octane gas. I don't remember the exact numbers because it was so long ago, but that's what sticks in my mind. I do remember I used to "cycle" the gas pedal to bounce the front end three or four times in 2nd gear during street races, and then catch a 3rd gear chirp, just to mess with my opponents heads. Ah the good old days......!

A really good write up, thanks for posting it. My 72 R code was driven to work everyday and ran 12.70s at the track (a cam, a gear, and bolt ons) . Thats not fast by todays standards but, was quick in 1977. Chuck

For what its worth,Ford did not make a 70 model 351cj engine. Also anyone that had a 351c 4v knew they could outrun most sbc .The chevy guys always came back with ,its a big block.Whisnane
