Hello, I'm looking for a headlight switch knob for my 73. It's the knob attached to the shaft that is removed when you replace the switch.

Here's a pic of the ugly one in my car. Anyone have a nice clean one they would like to part with?

Thanks all,

I have an extra but have no idea of it's condition. Are you looking for concourse? I'll check mine in the next day or 2 If it's clean your welcome to it.

Not really needing concourse but if it had all it's chrome it would be a welcome addition to my dashboard!

Thank you!

Sorry, My spare isn't much better. Know a fella down the road who may have one. I'll get by there this weekend when he's not working. I'll keep my eye out though.

Thank you very much! Not too many wrecking yards around here, let alone 71-73 Mustangs in them...

i don't know if this helps but i could not find a decent replacement for my 72,, i noticed that the 71-73 cougar used the same knob but the shaft for the switch is totally different then the mustang because the cougar has vacuum motors on the lights for the cover which made the shaft longer and have different indents on the shaft.

i found a 73 cougar headlight knob with shaft.

Heated up a 100 Watt soldering iron and held it to the shaft heating up the plastic so it started to melt and i removed the knob.

heated up my 72 mustang headlight shaft and pulled off the old knob. heated the mustang shaft again and popped on the cougar knob onto the mustang shaft let the plastic melt into the shaft and then used a wet sponge and cooled everything down.

that was almost 10 years ago and had no issues and the knob looks factory.

this may open options for you if you are stuck tring to find a knob that is not peeling.

That's creative thinking, I hadn't thought of that. I thought the knobs were different between 72 and 73 but their the same eh?

You could probably get one from a torino or any other ford car from 71-73. I am pretty sure the headlight was the same in my 76 Starsky and Hutch. Check any vehicle ford built in the seventies you find. My door lock pulls I got from a granada that they used for Bigfoot to crush at a local Ford Dealer. I found the pics and the also crushed a 72 Torino Fastback that day! Why they didn't crush Chevys I never understood!

They wanted to make Bigfoot look tough. Everyone knows that the Chevys would crumple like an aluminum can. Much more impressive to see it try and roll over a "Built Ford Tough" product!

Right, one would have to modify ala post 6. I did this exact same thing in my 70 Camaro for the cigarette lighter. They don't make the knob so I used a headlight knob and modified the same way.

Note, if the hole is too big for the headlight shaft from the 71-3, just fill with Epoxy and put the shaft in that way.

The other guy up here on DLI with a 71 had a bunch of spare interior trim in his trunk, I'll see if he has one tomorrow morning.
