no from what i remember you would have to slide it off the back of the cable when means you have to take the cable out anyway and i don't think the repops are the same as original diameter.(thinking about it i don't even think that is possible because of the transmission seal on the other end.)
it really is not that hard since you have the panel out, i replaced my cable without jacking the car from what i remember. i got an extension to pop the bolt on my speedo cable to get it out of my C6 trans,, pulled the cable out of the holder clip on the drivers side got the cable out so i could pop the E clip that holds the trans gear, then got in the car and started to pull out out through the firewall seal. then i just replaced the cable and did the same in reverse order...
one tip before install take the new cable out of the sleeve and regrease it then slid it back in, when you finalize the install just space out the new cable so nothing is kinked or stressed so the speedo reads well. put a little vasoline on the end of cable/O-ring seal that goes into the transmission case. when clipping it into the back of the speedo cluster you kind of twist it around and it pops on and locks. jacking the car up will make it a lot easier.
