I'm going to be doing my parking brake today. As such, I need to lift the rear of the car to replace the cables (taking the wheels off).

I've heard various things about where to lift these old cars. One thread I read said to lift it on the differential and place the stands on the axle tubes. Another said to support the car on the "torque boxes" in the back.

Any consensus on here as to where to jack it up and support it?

Thanks,

Joe

In my opinion the torque boxes are more stable and safer location for the jack stands than the axle tubes. Chuck

Thanks guys! I used the differential and tubes.

Got the wheel off (and I HATE the Keystone Klassics...they're the "one size fits all" ones). After donning my mask and gloves (original asbestos rear brake shoes), I got the new parking brake cable in without a hitch.

If all jobs on the Mustang were this easy.....

I tend to go with axle tubes to avoid putting weight on the body where it normally doesn't exist.
