Mirror control cable routing

What's the correct routing for the driver mirror control cable?

The cable goes through the hole in the door, routes forward to a circular clip that attaches to a horizontal ledge on the front inside of the door, then to the door panel.

The clip/loop goes towards the front of the door. That way it doesn't interfere with the window.
