Mustangs on Pikes Peak

I know these aren't 71-73, but still thought I would share the pics. I happened to be up Pikes Peak this weekend and ran across these 2 cars. the coupe may be a 65 or so, the fast back looks like a 69-70.  the fastback was a full on restoration-mod.  I was driving a cheap rental car, and only had 1 low gear, which still caused my brakes to be 270 at the mandatory brake check on the way down. they stop you at 300.  my 4spd Mach 1 in 1st gear would have been better suited, but since I'm running OEM brakes, not sure I would have attempted the hill climb...

Nice,  I was up there in 1981, myself and a friend were sharing the driving in a 1979 Red Chevy camaro 5ltr V8.  Sadly not the 5.7ltr  350

It was one of the places we visited while driving from  New York to LA.

I still have the coin you could get at the summit top station 14,110 feet high.

Always wanted to go to Pikes Peak but somehow never got to it. Crossed the U.S. 1 trips but never there.
I live in western, N.C. and grew up on the curvy mountain roads. We use to race them a lot, lol. This is said to be the curvest section of road in the U.S.A. and lots of bikers come just to ride it. SCCA does a hill climb in the fall quite a run of I think 11 miles. For sure not the elevation of PP but will get your heart going. Before they reduced speed limit was fun. It is in N.C. and Tenn. both there are no side roads or driveways entering for the whole run so not going to get hit that way.
