I saw this one when they had it down to the frame and were wet-sanding it. To their credit, it came out quite nice...

...if you can excuse the clearcoated engine bay, mysterious extra upper radiator hose clamp, and (for the second time today) the Deluxe seats matched with standard door panels :dodgy:

They've got a '73 Mach up next - a green/argent car, IIRC.

Those are actually not deluxe seats but rather sports seats. The deluxe seats were the seat upgrade for non-mach 1 cars.

However, the mismatching of either sport or deluxe seats with standard door panels is bothersome to me. Those items just don't go together. I didn't look close enough to see if it has the correct dash trim. It would bother me all night if I looked and it was incorrect. I'll check tomorrow.

That one is a complete and utter disaster. Have you seen the enlarged eBay photos? The entire blackout treatment on the bottom of the car has been executed with black vinyl decals - there are yellow marks at every jamb corner where the vinyl ends. Note that they couldn't figure out how to get the vinyl on the rear valance panel (and why was the bumper put back on missing a bolt?).

Love the end cap that's touching the trunk too. I've seen garbage factory alignment on these cars, but not to the point of contact between panels. Either that end cap was put on crooked (doesn't look so from the side), or the taillight panel has had a poor repair job.

Decal placement is off as well (ditto for the pinstripe spacing), hood blackout pattern is incorrect (what's up with the "MUSTANG" in front?), and the trunk "Mach 1" lettering" is the larger version that belongs on the fenders.

At least the white car was parts-built with care and love. This yellow thing was put together by someone who had a lot of their own ideas - none of them too good. Look under the hood - someone literally sprayed the entire thing (save the air cleaner) with black spray paint:

I don't think a 351 2V car (started out as one) has the oomph to bring $22.5k on eBay or via any of the traditional classic car trader sites. Note that this all-original example (in mostly un-restored condition!) brought all of $18k:

I dare say the white one would bring $22k at Mecum though; definitely more at BJ, but anything that captures the fancy of the nuts at BJ will always fetch far too much.

I'm quite sure part of the interior came from a rusted-out '71 donor car that they had at the shop - they mentioned it had a good interior.

Ok I looked. Now my day has started all wrong with bad mustang images. I'm OK with guy/gals that want to customize their cars but little details that should be correct really should be correct on a car that is displayed as an original. All they have to say is Mach 1 that's been restored with custom details.

Good points, but:

• Spoiler could be a dealer add-on - in fact, I was hard pressed to find any Mach without a Boss spoiler on eBay
  
• Louvers are a period-correct add-on.
  
• Agree on the tank; can't explain that, unless it was some sort of worthless undercoating (which it isn't) worked into dealer fees.
  
• I'm not as familiar with the Deluxe door panel as the standard, so I can't say how it's supposed to be trimmed at the bottom. Wouldn't an interior door panel that sits a bit too high up expose the red of the inner door structure?
  

Incidentally, the rear valance panel suggests some other hidden surprises too - it has some rust stains on it.

Either way, it's fared a lot better than most so-called all-original examples. I'm downgrading it from being outstanding, but it is still better than most sorry excuses for restorations out there.
