Paint timing cover?

Would you paint the timing cover while it's out? Look rusty behind the water pump? Is engine paint ok?

no doubt i'd paint it, along with the rest of the engine with the same paint. do it allllll the time. clean it up and use a rust inhibitor primer then color paint. done...

Would the,anti freeze just destroy the paint?

Heres mine. I think its logical that Ford would have timing cover in place before spraying engine

I have always painted everything.  You can paint them before assembly, or after.  You just have to make sure you tape off any bearing surfaces or access to any bearing surfaces.  The main thing is prep though, like any paint project, the results will be dictated by the amount of prep work you do.  Anything that is rusty, cruddy, corroded, needs to be bead blasted first.
