That may explain something. Bought this engine from Don as a long block.

My mechanic claims he and a friend measured valve lift at 0.58 . Ford made

a cam with that spec for racing use. Don heard a recording of the engine and

says it does not sound like that cam. But a longer pushrod would produce that

lift with a less radical cam? We don't know who rebuilt this engine but they did

a really good job! My mechanic worked on these in high school late 60's early

70's and made good money.

Mike, There is a lot more going on with pushrod lengths. This is a very good article on the subject. https://www.enginebuildermag.com/2017/03/form-fit-function-choosing-installing-pushrods-rockers-valve-springs-remember-valvetrain-works-system-performance-engines-one-change-usually-impacts/

+1 excellent articleMeasuring push rod lenght is a must if anything has changed in the engine. It is a simple process that needs time. I did it recently by measuring the in/ex of #1 and #8. Then double checked with #2 and #7. In my case.

Yes, good article.  My mechanic still thinks when they went to deliver

this block to Don they picked up the wrong pallet. The shipping tag

read deliver to NASCAR :D
