Radiator

The radiator in my 72 convertible is needing to be recored. Here in the bay area they want $550 to re-core the radiator. I noticed that aluminum radiators are more affordable. Is there a suggestion on a decent one that cost less then the ro-core?

I bought an exact fit off Amazon, for $150 or so. It wasn’t exact fit and took a bit of custom mounts creation…but it was $150 and cools the engine.

I did end up buying an aluminum radiator for now. I will wait and see if I can find a better price to have my original radiator recored.

I used a 3-row Champion radiator and have had no issues. It did require some very minor tweaking of brackets and stuff to fit as it was a hair wider than stock.

I picked up a 3 row aluminum Champion brand radiator from Performance Cooling in a kit that included a fan shroud for dual electric cooling fans, where the oem mechanical fan was to be replaced with the electric fans. They also provided a fan relay. I posted two YouTube videos at the links below showing how I did the conversion to dual electric cans, and another video showing how I installed an LED light array to notify the driver when the cooling fans were turned on by the fan relay. The descriptions of both videos includes parts and vendor info.

I hope this helps you, whether you go electric or not. The folks at Performance Cooling may be able to help you find a more conventional fan shroud if you keep the mechanical fan in place.

I've been running a universal Jeg's house branded aluminum radiator for about 11 years with no issue. It fit into the stock saddles, the only issue to some is no trans "cooler" lines.
