I dont know who you guys use for machine work but no reputable shop is going to return any engine parts that have not had the shake and bake treatment -the tumbler that uses caustic cleaning solvent for immaculate metal surfaces. No shavings, moisture, dirt, crud, and corruption
I prefer to TEST and VERIFY.

I TRUST my engine builder has indeed thoroughly cleaned my engine, and machined everything to the proper specifications. But, even Dale Jr. gets a bad battery, bad alternator, bad set of tires now and then.

So, although it takes A LOT OF TIME, the time to TEST and VERIFY is a lot less then to troubleshoot, remove and rebuild.

I TRUST my engine builder Spoken like a true poser

I trust my machine shop, because the 383 Stroker Mark Winger had on his engine dyno when I picked mine up flashed 665 during a throttle blip (up to around 4000 rpm)... while he was dialing in the carb. Later, it pulled over 950 around the 6700 rpm range after the tweaking was done. Which was actually a little more than he said he was expecting out of it. He also showed me the dyno slip from a 454 he built that pulled 1895.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure his usual domination at the local and regional drag strips is an indicator.

Man...a guy can't spray paint, and he get's bent over like a Chevy piston rod when stroked by Pamela Anderson....

Old fashion TIDE around here. After several washings...........Wash it again then we use Marvel Mystery Oil to coat it then we also bag it to keep the dirt from settling on it.

No shavings, moisture, dirt, crud, and corruption WTF:huh: Also if it is returned in any thing but a HD plastic bag the Shop is sub par find someone else. Cleanliness is next to Godliness thats why they have CLEAN ROOMS for proffesional engine assemblies! If they dont have that run!!!;)
If you want to pay extra for the spotless cleaning you can but even I can use soap and water (even in Arkansas)...LOL...sorry I could'nt resist
So down south they just machine old dirty contaminated engine parts? Ya gatta pay extry for cleanliness:huh: I know if you go to the center of nascar country the CAROLINAS you have the finest shops in the world, and dirty is not part of the program! No outbacks machining there.

G&S machine is the best around here and they are clean but you would not believe some of the other shops I have seen...no wonder their reputation sucks...I mean really, pick up a broom once in a while.
