This album was written by Sting for an upcoming Broadway play about his hometown in Northern England.
While I am not a huge fan of Broadway - this story hits home on many levels.
I saw my father work very very hard for many years to build a future in two industries that were hit hard by economic conditions, just as the Northern UK shipyard building business in this story. He (my dad) tried to diversify but unfortunately both industries (real estate and energy) were driven into the ground at the same time. He lost virtually everything he had worked so hard for in just a few short months. - Another note - his beautiful bride - my mom was also diagnosed of cancer that same year. Bless them both as they passed quite a few years ago. Fantastic parents! They both loved their family - and luckily for me dad's other passion was collecting and selling cool cars!
OK back to Sting's album and my connection --- After searching years ago some of my father's side's genealogy - we are from Northern UK and Ireland! So I like this quite a bit and I thought I'd share.
Sorry for the sappy ramblings... :-/ Sure miss my mom and dad.
I hope someone else enjoys this album as I do.
For those who might like their kids to see this - Sting drops the F bomb a couple of times in one of the songs - I think it is the song about a welder singing like Elvis...
