For my tailights I just use mild soap and water. Then be sure and rinse and don't leave any water on them. (dry them good) If they still look bad you can polish the lenses with some good plastic polish. Be sure and go back and wipe the polished areas again. Seems like I always miss some and leave polish haze!! nIf you need to clean the inside surfaCe of the lenses - DO NOT USE POLISH - surface is too rough in areas - the polish will be almost impossible to get off. Just use soap and water then rinse with just water -- then dry good before resealing.
I guess you are concerned with the grime on the inside of the windows. I have had excellent luck using straight vinegar. Dampen a towel, paper towel or newspaper and just use to clean. Don't make the towel etc so saturated it drips! And do not spray vinegar on the window. It can take a few applications but it will take off tons of grime. I used to work at my dad's car lot and he would buy old cars that had been sitting. The interiors would have been closed up. The interior upholstery material (and other debris in the cars) would off-gas and leave residue. Years of cigarette smoke would also attach to the glass. THe vinegar worked excellent! And don't worry about the vinegar smell as it would go away in minutes. Follow up with mild soap and water, then rinse...
