Multiple Mustangs!
Ok guys the old guy needed some speed in his life again. My gal friend had bought me 20 laps at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Tracktime cars. They have crate Chevy engines and can do over 180 mph. This was my first time to do this. Me and my son use to dirt track race carts years ago. I was the oldest guy out there then and was again today. I am 67 but feel 30, lol. On my way to work I would cross the state line and would take my F-150 over 100 just to feel good at 6:30 in the morning, lol. I have had friends when I was a teenager get on their knees in the floor and beg me to pull over and let them out. I was a crazy kid for sure. That need for speed is still there and my gal friend knew it.

We got rained out at the last track time I was next to get into the tall guy car when the rains came.

We had to be at the track at 10:30 this morning and made it but sprinkles on the windows going down. It was a gray day for sure.

I was signed up for 20 laps but I think it was over 30 they gave me to make up for the two trips to the track. I had never been in one of these cars and the car set up for my height had carb issues flooding big time. I had to try to fit in the next size down. I am 6'4" and was tallest and oldest there. So got in the car and I think it was set up for road coarse. The clutch was all the way over next to kick panel. The brake and gas were way apart for heel toe use. My knees were bent and nothing fit. They put an instructor in with you to show you the lines and marks. He was in for 3 laps and got out and said have fun. I did 3 or 4 laps and got flagged to come in. They told me I was off line and where to correct. They said go back out hit the marks and gradually speed up so I did. I think the front stretch is weird. You have to get next to the wall in 3 different places that was my issue. The back stretch was great get into the throttle coming off #2 an on the brakes into three and take it around. I would hit over 6,000 rpm on the back stretch but could not on the front, need more laps to find marks. I did probably 35 laps had paid for 20. I ask the instructor what speed you were at 6,000 rpm he said about 170 mph. It did not feel like 170 but made me feel young again.

One thing that is difficult they want you to check the eng. temp and oil temp. in each straight. There is not way not enough time just a glance down to check one or the other. You need time to get a rhythm in one of these cars.

I did not have the issue I had heard about other getting arm cramps. I learned early on in dirt track cart that you do not hold the wheel only in your hands and open your grip in the straight. I could have done 100 laps no issue just price, lol.

Gal friend found a special that was under $200 for the 20 laps. I am putting pics up showing their info. I suggest you all do this if you like to go fast or think you can go fast. When instructor was on the track they would blow by, lol. No substitute for experience.

The old guy lives on, lol. Might get the racing cart back out and go dirt tracking.

Good stuff there David, glad you finally got to have your go. It really is a blast to do, as I've the same thing over here in Australia quite a few years ago. I also went passenger with a professional driver another time and boy don't those guys know how to pedal, that was a real eye opener. Looks like you had a great time of it and I know how much you would've enjoyed the day. After doing those laps, the drive home seems like a crawl though, lol. Anyway glad you reall enjoyed it.
