Since I have my radiator removed for repair or replacement, I plan on replacing the trans cooling lines because the upper aft one has a leak at the connection and at the 90 degree fitting.

I have tried everything possible to loosen the connectors, but the upper aft 90 degree one has little or no clearance in the tunnel, and I have pretty much rounded off the flats on that connector. The front one is tight too, but I have a little more clearance there, and it is a straight shot into the trans.

I plan on cutting the aft one at the connector where it goes into the 90 degree fitting and removing and replacing the 90 degree fitting, and then cutting the front one in the same manner and using a deep socket to remove it from the trans.

Just wondered if this sounds too neandrthal, or has anyone run into this problem?

YES, I have tried line wrenches.

Growing up and working on cars in the 60's & 70's primarily from the 'rust belt' region means many of us have been there a few times.

Sometimes the approach you're using is the easiest solution; so there's nothing wrong with it. Besides, if the flats are rounding off, it's pretty much history anyway.
