My Car
1971 429SCJ Mach1
I just found this site off a Google search for 1971 Mustang cowl repair. What a great resource. Being a big guy I've always prefered the big Mustangs and absolutely love the fastback design. I've got a 71 429SCJ Mach I'm gearing up to restore this fall. Every so often I search the web for info. I've restored several Fords in the past but my Mach was rusty when I bought it in 1987 and is even rustier now from sitting in a leaky garage since 1988. It needs a cowl & some firewall in the front and the full monty in the rear, inner outter wheel houses, trunk floor, 1/4 panels & valance. I've been putting this off for 25 years as I wanted to do this car right. I saw it when I was 11 and bought it when I was 24. I've done lots of big jobs before including a full frame race car but this will be my first resto of a car this rusty. I'm looking forward to all the info I can get on how others have done their repairs and advice. I've been buying and storing parts for twenty years now and with the release of a new cowl and firewall seems like it's time to get started. I plan to pick up a rotisserie at the All Ford Nationals in Carlise Pa this June so I can weld in some kind of comfort. I'm too old and fat to lie on my back any more.

God Bless

Leon

Here's a vintage pic circa 1988. The car is currently burried in Mom's garage with opossums in the trunk and a dead cat on the hood.

Welcome from Chesapeake VA! Good Luck!

Welcome from Virginia. Great to hear another one is being saved. I guess the dead cat and the opossums are great security devices to keep your car safe.

Possums and dead cats. You support wild life with a sitting stang. When the 429 SCJ is back on the road again--per willie nelson--there will be additional wild life in New York! welkum from west central FL.

::welcome:: from Maine! That 429cj is so worth saving,I've seen some of the guys here fix cars I would'nt think could be saved, there are a lot of knowledgeable guys here to help you along.
