I have chosen to keep the regular wire set up on my ALT and will be removing it in a day or so for clean up of the engine block area.  I am torn between just doing a cosmetic clean of the current alternator, it is working fine, or upgrading to a Powermaster.  https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwm-7078  or  https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tff-7078?rrec=true

and pros or cons if I go with a new Promaster?

If it were me, I would go with this 90 amp from DB Electric, good prices and good reputation:

Is there any concern about original wiring and an alternator that is a higher amp rating then the stock 55?

You are also replacing the wire from the ALT to the battery (starter relay). They sell a kit that includes a fuse in this wire. I bought mine from ebay.

Edit: this is with a 3G alternator

Yes, I would upgrade to a #6 conductor for the main power feed (black with orange stripe conductor). If you stay with the original style alternator with the separate voltage regulator mounted on the fender apron the rest of the conductors will remain the same. If you change to a one-wire alternator or upgrade to a 3G Ford alternator you will replace the alternator wire harness.
