I finally decided that I will replace the square tab pockets where the lower control arms attach to the frame. I have been using the SOT square tabs instead of the stock eccentric cam for a few years already, but I got the car with the tab pockets partly damaged and badly rewelded. What is happening is that the LCA has enough play to change the camber about 0.5 deg. That said, I want to replace the tab pockets. My question is if anyone here has done that? Are they spot welded to the frame? I could remove the tabs to check but I am right now just planning ahead. I got the 65-66 kit from SOT that already has the tab pockets included. They also have a new tab design where they have a slot instead of the hole the older ones had. With the older ones you need to remove the bolt to insert them, with this one you just slide them into place. Seems like a much better idea.

hey Tony,
I don't recall seeing welds there, entire pieces are spot welded.
Blobs of welds like these is never a sign of strength, so doesn't really matter if you grind them to inspect closer. If there is some crack you need make sure it's done right.

Looking if I have better picts from side...

Don’t know if this will help but wanted to share a picture of my box for reference. It looks like it’s just spot welded in three spots. Sorry it’s painted and hard to make out but looks like two spot welds above the slot and one below the slot on the box.

Thank you. Great picture and very shinny! Now let's see how easy would it be to get to the slots facing the rear.

Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. I’m out of town. The only picture I have of inside is this. It’s before I restored my front end so a little rusty. Can’t see the slot but can see the lower spot weld better. Hope this helps. If you want when I get home I can try to get a better picture but the slot is of course now covered.

Thanks for the pictures. The rears are very good and the front's are bad, so maybe I can leave the rears intact.
