F-ing HOA issue!

I hate HOAs and would find out of the owners of those other cars are also being scrutinized (or if they're HOA members and being 'overlooked,' as a result). If the owners are indeed members, I'd stuff it right back in their faces and tell 'em to pound sand. Then threaten to sue the HOA for discrimination, harassment, and whatever other small civil court things that could be defensible.

I'd first go over the by-laws with a fine-tooth comb, run it by a lawyer if needed, and stuff it back in their faces when no such rule exists. How much legal power does an HOA have, anyway? Did you sign anything when you moved in?

If it's in your driveway, they shouldn't be able to do anything about it... but parked on the street, they might try and have it towed, which might just be within their jurisdiction to do so. Definitely need to find out what their rules are and exactly how much power they actually have.

Chances are this is probably more about the drip marks on the street. It also sounds like there are a handful of Karens with bugs up their tailpipes for one reason or another.
 
A bad subject gets worse. Unfortunately my son got rear ended by a kind old lady who had a medical issue. Now there is an insurance company fight for wherever this goes. SIGH…. (Or maybe a set of tears!). This was/is an amazingly solid car, so sad…

When dealing with insurance companies and older cars, you will probably need to get appraisals of your car’s value prior to the accident. If the car’s value comes in higher than the cost to repair, then you might be able to get a complete paint job since they can’t match old paint.
I would send your son to a doctor because back and or neck pain doesn’t show up right away. They will have to pay for any medical. They will try to settle the case for the least amount as possible. They will also call and get a recorded statement from your son. Even though he is not injured, soreness, muscle aches, are common after rear end collisions. If you are not satisfied with their offer to settle, let them know what you want, if they disagree, let them know you’ve consulted with an attorney and willing to court if necessary.

Nope. Happens in Utah at my HOA all the time. They sued me for building a pergola on my own deck - same eyesore argument- and they won. I loathe all HOAs - big fish in tiny ponds with control issues
 
A little late to the party here but if that's all our HOA was/is requiring, I'd be lucky. Truth is, nothing but daily drivers are allowed on property, even with a car cover. It's the garage or the boat/RV storage lot. Actually, fine by me, when I purchased my '72, it was to never see adverse weather again, so the garage issue wasn't an issue. Now that I'm in the process of abating the rust and new paint, among other things, there's no chance it will ever be stored outside. While I do have a cover too, that's for the garage when it's completed.

It's also all well and good to challenge or ignore the HOA but get to know the rules and state laws before you do, there could be imminent risk. Maybe this has been covered already and apologize if so but, it might provide some of our shared Commonwealth members with info they might not have.
To explain our situation, Virginia has seen fit to give HOA's an immense amount of power over the residents, so much in fact, they can create and execute a foreclosure situation thru fines and fees. The law states they can only fine a resident $900 per incident but they don't limit the number of incidents. So, if your HOA is managed by a nationwide management company, as ours now is, there are those with a darker reputation of being in the housing business as much as they are for running HOA's. Important to keep a close eye on your account to be aware of any fines or fees because your infraction was being assessed late fees. That's where they get you because many pay the initial cost of the fine but the delinquent amount owed because of the "added charges" keeps accruing interest. While we haven't been a witness to it happening, there are stories where people have sold their homes and at closing find out they owe tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars or their mortgage was settled and the HOA had title or put a lien on the title.

Edited with the caveat to the HOA and what I mentioned, we have a new one and have not heard anything about them and the foreclosure scenario I spoke of. There have been other Companies elsewhere in the US that are that unscrupulous. And, while I do enjoy a well spirited, reason-based conversation and there is more that could be said, even in a general topic header forum it's not appropriate among the 7173Mustang family.
