i installed a Custom Autosound USA740 to replace my radio in my 71 convertible. i tapped into the cigarette lighter for my constant but now when i tested it, it shuts on and off with the headlights/cluster dimmer cabin light switch. if i leave the headlights on or off it works fine, but turns on and off with a lot of clicking from the switch if i adjust the dimmer or turn the cabin lights on and off. i thought that by wiring the constant to the cigarette lighter it wouldn’t have anything to do with the headlights? can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks :)

i have constant from blue/white cigar lighter 100%, have checked and confirmed a few times. i think the issue might be coming from keyed/ignition power. at some point the original radio was taken out and replaced with an aftermarket one, so i’m guessing (or hoping) the issue is coming from there. once i either identify or eliminate that that’s the problem i’ll move onto the ground. here’s a picture of the ground and keyed power wires, which eventually go to a wiring harness. not sure if the harness was from the original radio or something added when the first aftermarket radio was put in. was hoping to just use what the last set up was using, although the radio wasn’t working to begin with.

Be aware that the blue/red wire coming from the underdash harness is not ground, but lamp power. The yellow/black wire should be the primary radio power, the blue/white wire for the radio memory, and a separate wire is needed for your ground.
