I learned some new things about my car from a previous owner. The last time the car ran it began to produce white smoke and the car was looked at and a possible need for new head gaskets was discussed ... this lead the previous owner to sell. I got the car from the guy after..
I am planning on pulling the engine at this point.

I suppose I should continue as I have planned and realize it will take some more time than I thought. I had a good session on the car last night. I also got some new tools enroute (4.5 in die grinder / ceramic grinding discs). I am also going to get a "Finger File" sander. I am very happy with what I have done with the structural strengthening of the floor. Hopefully with two days off this week and a 4 day weekend I can put enough time in to get the bottom of the floorpans taken care of and feel finished with that portion of the bottom.

I am hoping to get 400 hp (completely an arbitrary pick) out of the existing motor, with a rebuild / refresh.....

But.. before that.. the rear end is coming out, and I will learn about Ford 9inch rear ends... and refurbish it first. And... clean up and seal up the rear..

I had a very very good couple of days over the weekend. The first is that I got to meet the prior owner and he is a good dude. We talked about the car and it's issues that I will be working through. It is always good to meet honest folks with an interest in cars. I was also able to go and pickup some more shielding gas. Now... gonna go spend some time... over the Christmas Holiday... I want to learn how to 'Stack Those Dimes' I will send some pix of the efforts.

I got this 73 Grande about 10 days ago. The last time it was on the road was in 2022. The engine is a 351 Cleveland. The floorpans are rotten and I am going to replace them.

This first year will be about structure and safety. No real hot rod stuff at first.

I have been a BMW guy most of my life, bit this thing really caught my eye.

I live outside Dallas TX.

Hope Yall are having fun.

Andy

Congrats and Welcome aboard

I went and got some more steel to practice on. I am not at a place where it is perfect. However, I am very happy to see things looking much better. The c channel and continuous bead are looking much better than the beginnings.

Got some more steel and turned up the heat, slowed the wire down a bit and went a little slower. The puddle of metal went along the joint. I cut some of these open and can see the penetration of the weld. I will be putting a couple of fillets alongside the subframe connectors joints. I am not too proud to tell ya that the welds I have already done are a bit suspect after some honest counseling I got from a friend.
