Please Help - Rear Window Fit Issue - Body Shop can't figure it out

Props to all that have helped along the way, down to one last issue before I can pick up my Mach from the shop. Replacement rear glass + repo molding installed but body shop says gap so far off all around that something is off and shop owner says cannot figure out what it needs. I have repo chrome trim but shop said it is too far off that as is water is going to get in. Could not find in search, Is there a step by step guide anywhere for rear window install I missed?

Looks to me like the window is sitting to far back in the opening. The lower edge simply sits on top of the body.

I also suggest that he put loops of fishing line or dental floss around each clip to allow them to be pulled away from the body to help with installation of the molding. The repop stuff is VERY soft and any force will dent it.

I did my install a little different

Put the weatherstripping on the window

Clean and prep the body

Lay window in place

Use paint stirs to center the window in the opening

From inside grab the seal and work it over the lip at the center by the roof.

Once started go a little each side back and forth

Helper pushed on the window a little to keep the seal in place on the window from outside

Keep working the seal side to side until you get to the bottom

I tore my first seal trying the rope method spent hours trying.

Popped it in using the above method in 30 minutes

Thanks for the input. I am forwarding all this to my bodyshop guy. He tried 2x more to install the trim and had given up hopefully this info helps but I am 99% sure he is cashed out on willingness to try anymore. Does anyone know a classic car shop or glass/trim shop in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that can install the trim on fastbacks? My front window trim looks pressed in too much in one corner as well. At this point I'm ready to just get the car out of his shop and get it somewhere that has done this before.

Since the window is sealed at least I'm going to move on for now and send it to my mechanic for the final wildwood BBK, steering wheel, upgraded EFI and new fuel tank install. If anyone sees this and knows of anyone in Dallas Fort Worth area you can recommend I will need to get the trim installed down the road. Looking to buy original trim for the front and back windshield as well.

Aftermarket trim is very thin and dents super easy.

Really need to find original parts. Even if they have small dings they can be reworked to be fairly nice.

Know anywhere that sells these used/refurbished? All I have found so far are the driver/passenger lowers for the rear windshield in good shape just ordered off fleabay.

I posted a rear window install on pg. 12 of the media. I probably used Steele Rubber for the rubber & cleaned up original stainless trim. I may still have another complete set of original window trim.

You still have to do something to get those corners to stay down on the rubber trim. There's no lip on the bottom to pull under the metal flange. Maybe the side trim goes down a 1/2" too far and needs trimmed a little. It should sit flat. It might just take 2 snips with a pr of scissors, even though it's already installed.

Just a thought, I did have some trouble fitting the trims. Repop ones are very flimsy and kink easily. I had 3 different types of trim clips, all supposed to be 73 mustang clips. Have a look at the picture and you can see the different "clipping" dimensions. Once I found the type that clipped the trim in, it all went well. I can't recall whether the windscreen and rear window were the same.

Also I seem the remember people saying the newer rear window weatherstripping was taller.

There was discussion of using mopar windows moulding clips as the distance from the pin mount to the clip was taller
