I am not quite sold on it either. My friend who owns the body shop and is a professional painter talked me in to leaving them on for at least the first primer coat and block sanding. As you can kind of see in the first picture without any primer, I used body filler on the fender and end cap to improve the flow from one to the other as they do not fit very well to each other. This is something I have noticed about quite a few of these cars I see at shows, and wanted to resolve on my car as best I could. He feels it would be risky to pull them apart and have some of the bondo crack off the edge and have to redo it. I figured, out of respect for his knowledge and experience, I would paint the first coat of epoxy and slick sand and then block that out and then revisit the topic, but I am not comfortable with it to be honest, but we will see.
 
This morning, I stripped the hinges and mirrors down to bare metal and rebuilt the hinges with new pins and bushings. Then I sprayed them with epoxy primer. This afternoon I installed the hinges on the car so tomorrow we can hang the doors when my sons come over to give me a hand.

This will be my last post for a while, because Tuesday I have a shoulder surgery scheduled. Today my sons and I got the doors hung and organized the garage a little. We positioned the Mustang so a tow truck can tow it out of the garage whenever the exhaust guy has an opening. We also got the car off of the casters so it can be towed more easily. Other than the exhaust, not much else is going to be happening for the next 6-8 weeks while I recover from my surgery. At least the doors should be safer on the car than on the ground leaning against the wall while the project is on hold.

Going well so far thank you, the physical therapist said I have good range of motion for only few days after surgery so hopefully that means things will go smoothly 🤞
 
I went out to the garage last night and gave the wiring conduit a trial fit. It was one thing that I could do one-handed. It looks like the car came with them, now I will be able to run speaker wires to the door safely, it's the little victories, :LOL: .

I found this in a closet a few weeks back, a friend in college had an assignment to paint a water color for an art class she was taking and she chose to paint my 73 Mach 1. The proportions are a little off in the quarter panel / roof area but overall pretty good for a then 19 year old taking art as an elective, she painted it from the picture below.

I didn't think I would have any progress to report while my shoulder was recovering, but my friend Mike sent me these pictures today. He blocked out one of my fenders for me this morning, he said it is ready for primer now. He also said he would try to get to the other fender next week and then he will primer them both together. I'm am grateful to have such a good friend, but feel really guilty that he's working on my stuff when he has plenty that we have to get done on his Chevelle before spring.

I also got my clock back from Rocketman RCCI yesterday, and one of my sons stopped by and installed it for me and placed the console back in the car. The clock seems to work really well, quite pleased with the quality as usual from Bob.

Not a lot of progress, but a lot more than I expected to have while I am healing up.

I am tentatively scheduled to have the car towed over to the exhaust guy on Tuesday, if his schedule doesn't change.🤞 Hopefully I will be posting pictures of the installed exhaust in the next week or so.;)
