302 dipstick tube install problem

Got my small block dipstick and tube from CJPONYPARTS, and no matter which way I rotate the tube, it is either too far from the attach point on the head, or it interferes with the attach bolt/spacer on the alternator.

I have been tapping with a rubber mallet and as it goes in it starightens too far from anywhere to attach the bracket to. I don't want to seat the tube and then force it because it looks like it would need to go too far. Anyone have this problem?:huh:

It's been a long time since I tried an aftermarket dipstick, sounds like they haven't improved. My source for them is pic n pull.
