Hello,

Has anyone ever encountered stripped holes in the aluminum timing cover on a 302 Windsor ? It's the 2 top bolt holes (that don't go in the block). How does one repair that? Helicoil or trying to re-tap? I really don't want to get an aftermarket timing cover. Thanks in advance guys !

Your best bet is to either replace it, or re-drill and tap to a larger size. You can use a helicoil in aluminum though.

This is for just the top 2 thru bolts correct? If you cant get the helicol to bite, you can always just drill them out and use a lock nut on the back.

yep been there... both times i just went next size up bolt. drilled and taped with no problems. the nut/bolt will stand out but is easy to do using the same size bolt but longer.
