My Car
1971 Mach 1
So I'm relatively new to the forums, and to my mustang. I picked up a 71 mach 1 a few months back. I've asked a few questions here, but I'm finally getting underway with the work. In the middle of rear body work, it will be a long journey. I'm learning a lot and having fun. I had a 67 a few years back, but it's amazing how many differences a few years make. Anyway, I'll be logging the work here:

I would love any advice on the 71's to look out for. Like I said, more familiar with the 67's. First things first....what color will it be???

Welcome! This is a great site with lots of helpful info! Color = whatever you like. What was the original color / interior combo? A marti report will tell you how your car came from the factory.

Welcome to the club, James! Glad you found us.

I'm fond of the Blue Blow Metallic for some reason :p, but that's just me. The build sheet might be in good enough shape to tell you the original color. Looks like a great project - keep us posted.

The cowl area under the dash is usually the worst spot on 71-73's. No replacement parts are out there. Oh sorry ::welcome::

::welcome:: to the forum a lot of knowledgeable and helpful guys here. But as Roy pointed out certain parts are hard to come by

::welcome:: I say Nuclear Sunset Orange pearl. Color is found on Victory Motorcycles if you want custom. For flip value..be safe and go with the original color.

That is what my cousin is painting his bike on Monday. Must be getting to be a popular color:huh:

Love this color! Google it and you'll see them on Cobras also. Can't say I've seen it on any Mustang. Wanted to paint my ironhead aswell, but it's a bobber and will go with some kinda HotFlatz color. I may even go Hot Flatz on the '73 I'm doing. No more clear coat for me LOL!

Welcome to the club. I took a look at your link and your Mach looks like it is in very restorable shape. Floors look great and even the build sheet is mostly complete. Looks like the original color was a lighter yellow. Good luck and keep the posts coming.

Thanks for the welcomes! Yes, the color was yellow, then somebody painted yellow over that. I'm not too concerned about keeping it original, or resale. This one is for having fun with.

I really like the orange suggested. I was going to go with a clean silver but somebody told me that a car like this begs for loud colors!

::welcome::James your Mach 1 was siting around the corner from my work in Escondido. I would stop by now and then and look at it but I knew my wife would say no so I never inquired. I'm actually up in Ramona. Thanks for the offer of help. If your parts car has original front seats, let me know, I may have to buy them off of you. Mine has camaro seats in them....not bad looking...just seems wrong.

The car was posted in the morning on craigslist, I called on it, he said a guy was coming at 11, another at 12. I went at 10, bought it right infront of the guy showing up at 11. I felt bad...a little.

I used to be in Iowa, thats when I had my 67. Its amazing how many people and resources (and low rust cars) are here in cali.

Thanks, but I may have you fooled on the skills, but I'm willing to try whatever, I'm a quick learner....and I watch a lot of car shows on tv.

Sorry James the driver seat was junk beyond repair.
