71 mustang coupe mod

So iv'e been reading about body modifications to the 71 mustang and ran across a modified 71 mustang fastback called (Project Pegasus). in the build they cut 6 inches off the front end and replaced the grill and bumper. I want to do something similar with my 71' coupe... that being said, i was wondering if anybodies seen this. If so, you should post pictures, links exc.. It gives the car a mean stance and i think it'd be cool to see on a coupe.

My opinion: Excellent work and an awesome job by some very talented people... but I'm not a big fan of the car, personally. The coolest things about the car, IMHO, are the side scoops ahead of the rear fender openings... and maybe [MAYBE] the rear window/trunk treatment. Beyond that, the things they did just look out of place to me.

As someone who has simply replaced the entire front clip, floor pans, trunk, taillight panel, wheelhouses and quarter panels, be prepared for A LOT of work - particularly, metal fabrication and modification. I did all of that (never having done any of it before) with the advice of several professional automotive experts that are members here, along with a 'better-than-average' set of skills and a complete shop full of the right tools. If you have the skills and tools, the experts here will certainly give you all sorts of good advice.

Six inches is a lot of sheet metal to remove - some of that will come just from simply relocating the bumper rearward (cutting larger bumper pockets even further into the fenders) - or maybe fabricating a whole new bumper that's more along the lines of the shape you see on the Pegasus car.

Good luck with it - I hope you can come up with a workable solution to get the look you're going for! ::thumb::

I think that I'm not liking it because the nose is trying too hard to be a new Challenger.

Despite my comments though, it definitely doesn't suck.

Six inches is a lot of sheet metal to remove - some of that will come just from simply relocating the bumper rearward (cutting larger bumper pockets even further into the fenders) - or maybe fabricating a whole new bumper that's more along the lines of the shape you see on the Pegasus car.

If I recall right, Pegasus' front fenders were cut in a staircase pattern to keep the curvature of the fender right, and to maintain the narrower width at the front tip. It worked.

Though I absolutely adore the metalworking and craftsmanship in the car, I'm not a fan of the result. Interior aside (which I cannot tolerate at all), the most objectionable part of the design are the taillights. It's not as if our taillights are big enough - Pegasus' huge elephant-foot lamps ruin the horizontal feature lines of the rear end.

The front grill is not attractive either, but the stock front end is intact enough that one could easily redesign the grill and design custom turn signals to fit in the stock locations.

I don't mind the shaved driprails, but the omission of them causes the top edge of the flush front window to sit too high. The top edge of the window should have been cut down in height, and the window frame extended downwards and filled to match.

Yeah - I agree with many of the comments made by Eric and Kurt. I thought the owner or the builder was a member on here. It has been discussed a bunch.

That front grill reminds me too much of a 69 RS Camaro with the hidden lights in the up position.

Neat car but many changes I don't care for. Craftsmanship appears to be very very high.

I really liked the work done to refining the shape of the front fenders. When it became a radical custom it kinda lost me. The craftsmanship and metalworking is amazing. I'd like to see a car done with the refinements but remain a little truer to the original design, maybe more of a mild custom.

Like most said, fantastic craftsmanship but a little too much for me. I am somewhat of a modifier but that goes too far for my taste. The only real thing that I wish I had considered are the side scoops in front of the rear tires. That's a really cool addition as Eric stated as well.

Take one part Pegasus, plus diced slices of a 2015, and sprinkle some seasoning from a '71. Lower the windscreen, place in blender and mix on "mild" for 1 minute:

I should have run the silver stripe straight into the scoop too.
