Since this thread started we have all learned the real issue is not having the Ford tool or a fabricated one that they used in the day. There is a special too that you put between the frame rail and the control arm to prevent it from traveling all the way down when the car is lifted. It does not really matter what shock or spring just the fact that it is pinching the rubber when lifted is the issue. The special tool stops that and should be used any time the car is lifted and suspension is hanging. Do a search of the forum there is even a sketch of how to make them.
