My Car
71 Mustang Convertible
[/size]My current project is a 71 medium green convert. Now 5 years in and still fighting with body and paint men. I sent this car to a man in our car club who did cars for other members. He discovered the right shock tower is from a 72 mach. The shop was supposed to put it on a frame machine straighten her out and fix any welds needed. Forever waiting for the car finally The car was in primer and sent to the painter who started painting the pieces and parts. we found out that the unibody was never done. The painter assured me the body man and he would get her right. 2 years later she is painted and still messed up. I am thinking of having the entire front clip replaced but don't know who to trust or where to get one. This is RUST country you know.

Would like to know how the body man knew it was from a 72 Mach 1

He could have figured out the year by the VIN stamp on top or date stamp on tower. Not the model though.

Frame rails are the same for 71-2, 73's are different

Shock towers are the same for 71-3's

Torque boxes are different - they are notched for the

convertible inner rocker

I have a 71 coupe with a PERFECT front end

Frame rails, shock towers, cowl, firewall even aprons are clean

Don

the VIN on the top of the fender rail has a VIN with the 2F05H for the Mach 1

There is a great paint and body guy close to you who is a member on the forum. You may be able to work out a deal with him.
Can you tell me who?

QCODE351MACH is the one you want. PM him and see if you two can strike a deal. He is one of the best I have seen and anyone who knows his work will tell you the same thing
