71 or 72?

Anybody know why some Mach 1s have the metal trim dividing body color & black on rockers? Is that a 71 thing?

It got trim if it doesn't have side stripes

The standard configuration for the '71-72 Mach 1 had argent or black lower accent paint with the thin chrome molding above it. If the optional "hockey stick" body side stripes (Boss 351 stripes) were ordered, the thin molding was deleted and replaced with a pinstripe tape to separate the body and lower accent color. If you see a vehicle with both, the stripe is not OE, as Ford did not build them in that combination.

Another distinction between the 71-72's is the position of the latch to flip the fronts seats forward to allow people to get into the back seat. The 71's are in the center. 72-73 are on the side, closer to the doors. This may coinside with the warning light above glovebox.............

My 12/70 build had 2 hood latch supports, and a valance stamped with no center mount hole for support,….

I believe the Sprint Mustangs had the pinstripe tape to separate the body and lower accent color and no hockey puck stripes.

Look at your buck tag on the core support. It will have Qm (quarter molding. Bright molding separated the body color from the rocker color. The rocker color matched the center of the hood.
