9 inch width?

Can anyone give me a measurement for the 9 inch from backing plate to backing plate in a 72?? Im not at home to measure mine. Thanks Kevin

The flange to flange length on a '72 Mustang ('71 and '73 also) is fifty-six (56) inches.

Is that where the tire seats? flange to flange? A guy is interested in buying the one out of my parts car and was asking the backing plate to backing plate width. I will be home in a day or so and can measure it then just thought someone might know off hand the measuement.

The backing plate is connected to the flange via a gasket. For all practical purposes, the "flange width" I cited in the previous post and backing plate width as it pertains to to the axle width is the same.

The flange is located on the end of the rear axle tube. The measurement given (56 inches) is outside of flange on one side to outside of flange on the other side.

The width of the rear axle tube from inside of backing plate on one side to inside of backing plate on the other side of a '72 Mustang is 56 inches.

So what is the measurement from outside drum (wheel mount) to drum?
