Yes. I think the Oval ones are an "acquired taste" so to speak. Take a look through the threads below for some ideas. K&N and I believe Summit private label offer some performance oriented air filters with additional surface area on the top.
I went with an Edelbrock. Same "design" as the K&N for a lot less money and it had a dropped base which I needed. I also wanted a plain look, no ribs, writing, etc.

What about a triangular edelbrock elite 4222? It can be turned so the pointy end is facing the front or back of the engine. Edelbrock and K&N do smooth chromed finish versions as well.
An update on a old post - Just an FYI - The type with the filter in the lid is easily damage if your engine every backfires. Will burn through. Just make sure you take it off if you start messing with your timing or are having issues.
