Finished the replacement and sealing of a floor pan section last weekend on my 71' Mach 1 and I'm rolling right into glass. I have a couple of questions I hope to get answered.

On my door glass, with the door open and the window rolled completely up, the window is stationary. I am unable to push it down or rock it fore and aft. If I roll the window partially down I then have about a 1/4" play fore and aft in a rocking motion. It appears that this play is located in the upper window guide. Is this play normal or does the guide/guides need to be replaced?

Being that I am unable to push the window down, and that it rolls up and down freely, I am assuming that my regulator is in good shape. The situation described above is present in both doors.

My second question is in regards to front and rear window seals. I would appreciate recommendations on who produces the best seals for these applications.

Thanks in advance.

I used the Scott Drake rear window seal and it fits well. And I think you have to use the Butyl tape/ribbon sealer on the front glass. Just make sure all your bright work clips are in good shape and properly located before setting the windows.

Thanks for the reply. Is that seal considered a Ford licensed seal?

Thanks. Have you used any of their products? I don't mind spending the extra dollars for a quality item.

These guys are consistently very good but, price sometimes reflects that. Chuck

I never found a "Ford licensed" seal. I just know I bought the cheap one first, and had to pull the back window and start all over again, so I bought the Scott Drake seal the second time. In all fairness, the problem the first time was not just the seal, but how the Ford assembly manual explains to install the back glass. I ended up using 1/4" by 3/4" closed cell foam on 3 of the 4 sides of the window, and some 1/8" by 1/2" closed cell foam in the bottom channel, my window could not be centered in the frame well because one side of the pinch weld was narrower than the other, so my window had to be installed strong to the passenger side otherwise the seal would not pinch the pinch-weld. And I used a high viscosity urethane sealer to seal the window in. (Not butyl) Not to mention I had to relocate 3 of the 4 bright-work clips on the passenger side because they sat too low to engage the chrome. And I failed to get the new chrome in without damaging it so I had to repair my old stuff the best I could. Needless to say it was a PITA!!! But its done now and hopefully won't have to be done again!!!
