Temperatures rarely go below freezing and rarely over 90 here.

Do I really need antifreeze? What is wrong with plain water in the cooling system?

+1 and Royal Purple makes the best! IMO. I've used it in Dallas in traffic where you sit and sit and sit with 100 degree temps and the Benz ran cool on that product where it didn't on other products. I have it in all the cars now.

You could also run distilled water + water wetter or similar product. That would protect against corrosion, but doesn't provide freezing protection.
