I'm in the middle of doing a 4 speed conversion from an automatic. I'm having problems with the z bar post on the bellhousing and also shifter location. Is the hole in the floor for the automatic shifter in the same spot as a 4-speed, or will I need to modify the floor or perhaps get a 4 speed shifter hump for the floor? Also where the z bar connects to the bellhousing, my z bar tube is about 3 inch Too Short. Is there a different stud and ball assembly for the side of the bellhousing for these cars? I'm more familiar with older Mustangs and Torino's, this is the first 71 through 73 Mustang I've done this too. Any help will be appreciated

Hello and Welcome to the site. You need to intrduce yourself first before you get to many answers. Then check out the search tab and you can find all kinds of threads on this subject. Good luck with your changeover

For 71 -3 Mustangs the pivot bolts to the engine block not bell housing

Same shifter hole but make sure you have a Mustang trans with the correct shifter plate

As stated above, the z bar pivot should bolt in easily as described above.   Th tranny tunnel needs no modification, and the shifter location on the tranny is like all previous years, way back on the tail.  Torino trannys have a mid tail shaft shifter mount.

Other than that, just get the correct crossmember ,Speedo Cable,  and driveshaft yolk and you should be good,
