That subject has been hashed to death. Like stated earlier. You can do the job yourself if you like. I can post up the service manual pages if you should choose to go in that direction. I love 9 inch Fords just because you can do the ring and pinion on a bench to set your clearances and don't have to lay under the car to do it like GM's. Let me know if you need the book.
I like my hash with sunnyside up eggs and ketchup.

We could not get the axle off on first attempt, will need

a slide hammer. During the first try at removing the axle

we discovered a worn bearing so now we need to replace

both rear wheel bearings. The passenger's side is fine but

may as well do both. Funny how projects tend to escalate.

We noticed a small leak in a hose to metal fitting on the fuel

line so we decided to replace the entire line from tank to pump.

Why not. The current fuel line was replaced by a previous owner

and is not correctly routed for the car.

The bearing set's were purchased from Summit Racing and came in

three pieces, $62 per set and made my Timken. I am happy to see

Timken is still in business and still located in Canton, Ohio.

To add to what trainey said. The 4 bolts you removed from the brake plates, to slide out the axles, is the only thing holding the axles. The axle just slides back into the carrier gear, then are held in place by the 4 bolts. I am guessing you were asking if there were more than just the 4 bolts.:s
My mechanic is fretting about the c-clips thinking they may be worn.

I was thinking they had something to do with holding the axle in

place. Just want to get my ducks lined up so the job takes two hours

and not two days :-/

The rear ends that have the C clips are on the WER non removable carriers found typically on the Mercurys. Just like the Chevys the carrier does not come out.

Would love to add some more gedde up and go in a straight line. Currently have a 2.75 single traction and rear kicks out on hard take offs. What donor vehicles work or is Don the best source?

Alan L

Don is probably a good place to start. If he doesn't have one he may have a line on who does. Just be sure of the spline count of your axles match the carrier you get.

Don of OMS is THE source. If he does not have it, you don't need it.

Recently got a 3.50 posi pumpkin from Don. Then there was the rebuilt

never fired quench Cleveland long block, and the list goes on.
