Changing the switch

The convertible top switch is flaky on my 71. I have two questions.

1) I used some thin needle nose to turn the nut, but there has to be a better tool to turn it without marring it up. What tool should I be looking for?

2) What is the easiest way to access it? Now that I have it free, do I need to remove additional panels to get it out, or just squeeze my hand in there and suck it up?

Somewhere someone has or makes a spanner that fits the bezel nuts. I'm on the search now.
