Hi everyone,

I think i'm having an issue with my choke, but not entirely sure. When i start the car off a cold start the idle is fine, but once i tap the gas pedal it seems like the choke plate gets stuck closed causing the idle to increase abnormally high. Anyone know if this is normal and the choke just needs to heat up? or if there is a way to fix this?

Specs

-351-2v Cleveland

-Motorcraft 2 Barrel Carburetor

I wasn't able to upload the video, not sure why

Do you pump the gas pedal once or twice before you start it, to set the choke? The choke butterfly is connected to a fast idle cam that is supposed to set a high idle until it starts warming up. It's possible the choke isn't completely setting until after it starts or the choke linkage is hanging up and the fast idle cam isn't moving until after you start it.

Do you have a tachometer? How fast is it idling after cold start up? Does the idle return to normal after it warms up and the choke opens up?

Here is the link to the video of my car running where you can hear the idle differences when i open and close the choke butterfly.

Sounds normal to me. See my previous post.

The choke butterfly is supposed to close when the engine is cold and gradually open as the engine warms up.
