See @Steve73QMach1 post 21 or really the whole thread it has a great example and instructions for dying a black reproduction.

73 H Code Convertible Project

I followed this example on my interior soft pads (dash, steering wheel pad and console li) with excellent results. We used avocado dye for our interiors. Your color on your 71 is medium green I think. But we’re a couple of examples of it working well.

Jegs has a repro new for $143. Buing a used one is dicey since the vast majority are dry rotted. Mine was green painted black and the vinyl shell was cracking and the paint began to flake. With the cracking, the foam center degraded to powder and was running out of the cracks during removal and installation during my repair and restoration.

Agreed. I actually just ordered this. I can look into the best way to paint it the color I need. Thanks for this information!!

SEM offers their ColorCoat system which is for metal, vinyl and plastic. I used quite a bit of it for the Medium Blue interior in my Mach 1 and our XR-7. I did not have to recolor my dash pad, but did do all the other interior plastics. I've attached the ColorCoat 71-2 Medium Green paint mix below. You can locate a SEM dealer near you through their website. Follow the TDS to the letter and you'll have excellent results.

Something to be aware of is that SEM states that you need to use their SureCoat line on urethane parts, and I don't see a formula for Green.

Use the SEMS products. It's a three step process. I dyed a brown dash pad to red and it has been very durable. Note: when you are applying the dye spray it in very light coats. Literally one pass and let dry, then make another pass until it is covered in the new color. If you make a thick coat it will fill the grain.
