Fabrice, maybe your deck lid was replaced at some point with one from a standard sportsroof. The 71 sportsroof had a tape stripe with "MUSTANG" cut out. 72 went to the script on the passenger side.

Nothing is certain for sure, but as the green original color was underneath, all layers of paints (ancient repairs)  matching what I've so far found else where on the car and the letters (plastic ones in times font vs plastic) were sticked on the black, I think it's the original one.

Was just wondering if the letters were put back after the custom black paint was sprayed to match the original or simply because the PO liked the look of the letters more than the Mach1 sticker. Thinking about it, considering how hard it was to find parts back in the 80's in France, may be after it was repainted, as no M1 stickers were available or easy to reproduce, they opted for sticking letters to have some little branding on the rear...
