Diff ID Tag

Hi, I was hoping someone may be able to help me decode the tag off a diff that I recently purchased, Thanks Monty

The -AA2 doesn't show in the Ford MPC, but is in the Mercury book. Check the leaf spring locating pin holes in the axle pads and measure the diameter. Cougars used a larger hole to accommodate the steel shells for the spring insulators.

1CD is assembly date in year/month/week format - -1971 - March - 4th week
9 - ring gear diameter - 9"
3.00 gear ratio - lack of an "L" indicates this is an open rear diff
952A - is the manufacturing plant code
