Hello,

Anyone know how to test an EGR valve on a 73 351 C ? Also, should the small piston(?) be in the closed position when looking at the valve off of the car ? Thanks

Steve

EGR valve lets some exhaust gas get reburned (right LOL) by letting

it into the intake at cruise when engine is warm.

Check it with a vacuum pump and see if it operates.

Back in the day we used to fake the EGR valve being operational by plugging the vacuum line

that connects to it because it hurt power and fuel mileage.

The Smog dude used to manually open the EGR valve and if the engine RPM went down it passed

if not the passages in the intake were plugged off by carbon buildup and FAIL.
