My Car
1971 Coupe (trashed out when I bought it) with a 351M/400 - C6 (LONG story but it came dropped in the car, literally - it was NOT mounted!) paid $1,200!
My '71 coupe has a 351M/400 w/C6 (yea I know, this engine was never offered in a Mustang, but it is what I've got to work with...)

I did not get the exhaust manifold downpipes with the car - can anyone tell me if the cast exhaust log manifolds are all the same on 351C 2V, 351M and 400 engines? I can't find anything that tells me that they are different and a 351M/400 is a 351C block that was used as the basis of creating a 1.09" taller deck block and used heads comparable to 351C 2V heads.

I strike out EVERYWHERE looking for 351M/400 downpipes but can find them for a 351C.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since the 351m/400m is a taller deck block, the factory exhaust down pipes will be too short and wrong angles. The exhaust from a 351c-2v should bolt up and seal on the M heads. You will just need custom down pipes.

Thanks RacerX. I ordered a 351C downpipe / h-pipe last night and plan on eye-balling it and cutting it / splicing in a female-female connection to get the length / angle as close as possible to what I need. This car is a real challenge as it is such a hybrid with soooo many goofy things done by previous owners over the years. I will assuredly be asking lots of odd-ball questions over the coming years.

I had to make my own chassis perch mounts to get the engine bolted in properly -

I have gotten the interior work well under way - all floor rust cut out, painted with two coats of rust-neutralizer, two coats of rust-oleum rusty metal primer, floor pans replaced and two coats of blue enamel -

But it is all lots of fun!

ps - the engine and tranny were not bolted in when I had the car towed to my house - just shoved in and floating loose, to the point that the previous owner had actually caught the tranny tail shaft up in the emergency brake cable - there was about 5,000 pounds of pressure on the cable with the leverage of a 575 pound engine hanging out as a counter weight!!!

and nice dash as received....
