Eye bolt grades

Putting in my frame connectors the bolt at the front of the leaf springs will be 7 inches because it will no longer be on the inside of the frame rail. I'm thinking I may need to go with a grade 5 due to the bolt span and the real possiblity of wheel hop pushing 500hp. What say the forum!

For suspension fasteners I will not use or recommend less than grade 8. It's worth the extra few pennies.

Not a cost issue it's a SHEAR issue. Harder bolts can shear more easily.

True, hard bolts are more brittle. Grade 8 bolts are more "tough" than hard, you can still take a file to them. It's just a better grade of steel.

Grade 8 for sure, a grade 5 bolt would eventually strech and shear off, they normally break just behind the nut, too soft a material, for a high stress application..
