I believe these were installed on early '71 Mustangs only, not sure of the cut off date. This piece sits at the top of the fender at the cowl channels, supposedly installed by the factory to help in directing the water away. I am surprised that this was still in one piece on my car, this is the one for the passenger side. Un fortunately, the driver side was not in one piece and I am going to try and locate one for my restoration, if possible. I highly doubt they are being re-produced so I can only hope to find one that is sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Just putting a feeler out to see if anyone has these kicking around and did not reinstall in the past. Again, I need the driver side piece but would take a pair if required. I don't expect to find, but who knows!

Thanks Mike, let me know.

Mike, I believe there was variations in the design but more then likely, there was not different pieces for Machs, verts, etc. The difference would be due to Ford initiating engineering design changes.

You are correct.

There were two different versions

One type is the longer ones you have a picture of

There was also a short version

They were the same for all three body styles

They are hard to find as the sun ate them.

All,

It is called 16570-1 Filler - Front Fender - part Number D1ZZ-16570-A (R.H.) and D1ZZ-16571-A (L.H.) - It is interesting that they did not last long.

That may well be a tough find Pastel. Seems like the engineers didn't know what they wanted to do in that area. The fender pieces were dropped from production early and discontinued not long after that. There was actually a piece of moulding that snapped on the rear of the hood that matched the look of the fender pieces, but it was dropped from production 2/1/71. Like Don said the sun was not very kind to these pieces. There is probably another piece missing on your 71 that the sun liked to eat. There was a black moulding that ran the length of the dashboard between the padded dash and the metal part it fastened to. My early build 71 Mach 1 (9/21/70) had remnants of the fender, hood, and dash strip when I acquired it in 1981. But they crumbled like dried cake icing when touched. If you search by part number, mustang7173 posted the fender pieces and the hood piece is D1ZZ-16B918-A. Good luck!

it is interesting that the piece I show in the attachment above is actually in real solid shape. The other side lost half of its length. The sun does not seem to have affected these particular pieces, even though this was an Arizona car for many years.

I figured they would be a rare piece, not overly worried if I cannot obtain. I will clean up this piece and reinstall what was left of the other side. Good info on this thread though.
