Hello, I am getting ready to put a new fuel tank in our car, we've been looking at the 20 gallon premium fuel tank kit from CJ pony parts. I already have the tank straps and the filler neck. Does anyone have any experience with this kit and have any tips or recommended parts for the install. Thanks.

There is some kind of buffer between the top of the tank and the bottom of the trunk. There was a thread about this in this forum before, do a search. What about the sending unit? Do you have it or does it come with the new tank? I put a new one in mine but I didn't use that barrier so I ended up taking it back out and doing it after reading the thread.

Thanks, the kit includes a new sending unit. I just don't want to have any problems after installing the tank. My old tank was totally rusted out.

I bought that kit also; the sending unit doesn't read right and the tank has surface rust already...before I even got to drive it(garage kept)

I suggest you paint that tank. Eastwood has the correct paint.

That doesn't sound good, what is the deal with the sending unit, read low/high?, thanks.

Any bare metal needs to be treated and painted right away and the sending units can be adjusted.

I am searching for the post on the sound deadener placed on top of the tank between the underside of the trunk floor and tank top and not having any luck. If I recall somewhere I thought I heard people were using a thick roofing felt like material. Not a shingle with the granules, but the tar paper for roofs. Can anyone help me find this thread? I have used fuel tank sound deadner, fuel tank pad, fuel tank cover, fuel tank insulation

I recall it being like a felt roofing piece. I don't think it was a sound deadener. It was to protect the top of the tank from rubbing against the bottom of the trunk.
