Got in the Mustang to leave work and saw the gas gauge was just

above 1/4 tank. Couple days ago it was between 1/2 and 3/4, did

not think much of it as my mechanic had borrowed the car a couple

times. Went to the gas station for a fill up and it only took 7 gallons.

By the time I got home (5 min) the gauge read empty.

Question being, where should I look first?

With the key in the "ON" position, briefly ground the sending unit wire at the tank. If the gauge moves to full, the sender is bad. Chuck

Bad float would be my guess. When they crack they act all finicky until the air is out and they fill up with fuel, then it sinks.

Disconnect the wiring plug and jumper it.

Turn key on, gauge should move, that will eliminate gauge and wiring issues.

EDIT... Chuck beat me by 30 seconds :)
