This reminds me of something the members of "BikeForums.net Classic & Vintage" used to do when we were getting inundated with 5-10 newbies per day, who would join exclusively to ask what the value of a worthless '70s Sears roadbike was (generally one in worse shape than Eric's car when he started with it) - then skedaddle off in full denial when they found out it wasn't worth five gazillion-bazillion dollars.

You couldn't reason with them if you addressed them nicely, so teasing them worked just as well:

"It's worth $3.50!"

It eased off the hostilities amongst us too.

Of course, someone would bid "$4.50" and then needlessly drive the market up (until it was noted that the bidding war was for how much the seller would pay the forum to cart the thing away for scrap) ::laugh::

Gotta love those absurd prices. We were looking for rear fold down seat plastic corner panels a while back ago and found a set on ebay listed at 799.00 not including shipping which no matter how bad I need them would never pay that much:dodgy:. Luckily for me a forum member had some for less than 1/3 that price shipped to my door. Deals do pop up but you have to wait until the last second to bid on them.
