that's me in the back 1982...probably before YOU were born. Note there is no hotel with heat or a/c. No running water...comfy beds...dude THIS is motorcycling !
Nice pic, actually i was born 16 years before that picture, ha ha, the idea was to head out today for North Carolina but the wife got sick and had to come back home, headed for the Canyon next week, but got to have my bed and shower
Ahhhh well then you're CLOSE to being an old guy like me. I put about 34000 on my BMW back then in less than 2 years. I had the camping/motorcycle thing down to a science. On long trips I would camp a day and motel the next or weather permitting I would camp as many as possible which was most common choice. I still have the tent, its a mountain climbing tent light as a feather and quick to put up.
Did some camping 2 years ago in Cali on hwy 1, had a very small one person tent, it was big enough for me and the wife, i enjoyed it very much, then the wife got girly and wont do it no more, i put around 12k miles on my bike a year on long trips, on 3 to 500 mile trips i use other bikes, i have a decent size stable that i have acumulated over the years
We lived in Dallas and my favorite rides was to get out the concrete jungle and head towards Arkansas. I missed the Canyon on my trip mentioned in the pic posted earlier. We spent most of our time in Colorado but I made it to the Four Corners and Mesa Verde and Canyon de Chelly. My friends went on to the Grand Canyon and then on to California.
I was loving the ride back coming across some state called HELL....oh wait you guys call it Oklahoma. we were on 40 and the signs looked like they were 50 feet tall and 60 feet wide. I recall reading it and thinking yeah I can see what the mean. I'm leaned over as was another bike in front of me .....THEN the wind started blowing. blew me across 2 lanes. I was VERY thankful the 18 wheeler was just behind me and NOT beside me.
Ha HA HA!! Glad you made it, i rode the 3 sisters at Leaky Texas last year and rode in solid rain from San Antonio to Tulsa, i had rain gear but by the time i got tp Tulsa i was swiming inside the rain gear!! that picture is the wife and friends pretendidg, ha ha
Rode Colorado also last year, wife's Can Am Spyder blew the main seal in Moab Utah, the desert is not a good place to break down!!
Oh yeah I had written a very eloquent dissertation of my Labor Day trip in the Smokeys...just as I finished the electricity flickered and I LOST it. It was chocked full of being rained on! We rode from Dallas to just about Memphis in the rain to take a club donation to St. Judes. Well worth it came back and went to Wilhelmina lodge.
