I'm a little late to the party but I'll chime in anyway.
I've used halogen lamps in mine for years without any major issues but I've run into the problem of disco lighnting at night on occasion, ususally only when the high beams were on though.
Swapping out the headlight switch helps sometimes but it may not, depending on the tolerances in production quality.
The easiest way here is to use a relay. That way the switch only switches the lights on through the realys but the current no longer goes through the switch as it did originally and made the switch cut out.
It can't be a big deal as it took my friend about 30 minutes to rewire it. I couldn't do it myself as anything electrical is a huge mystery to me (as are many other things)!
